Advantages of Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Hearing Aids

What’s all the hype about Rechargeable Hearing Aids? A lot actually. As a hearing aid user, you’ve probably gone through a very large number of batteries over the years. Disposable batteries are tiny and they don’t last very long before they are used up and thrown away. This is why hearing aid users often go through hundreds of them over the lifespan of their devices.

Luckily, zinc-air disposable batteries aren’t the only option available to you. Rechargeable hearing aids are nothing new in technology, but they are finally gaining traction in the hearing aid world. Welcome the lithium-ion technology, the first rechargeable battery to provide a full day worth of power.

A survey of hearing aid users done by the website Hearing Tracker found that rechargeability was important for almost seven out of every ten people asked. This is no surprise when you consider the advantages of rechargeable batteries. Here are some of the main reasons rechargeable hearing aids may be right for you.

1. No extra costs

Users of hearing aids may spend up to $100 a year on disposable batteries alone, particularly if they are used daily. You could spend even more each year if you regularly stream content and phone calls with your hearing aids. You also spend time and money on gas or shipping to receive them.

No online shopping or visits to the drug store are required with rechargeable hearing aids. The batteries are supplied with the hearing aid and can be charged up for the life of the hearing aid.

2. Never be without power again

The act of recharging your batteries will slot seamlessly into your night-time routine, alongside charging your phone and brushing your teeth. With the 24-hour charge of lithium-ion batteries, this effectively means you will likely never be without power when out and about.

Disposable batteries don’t offer this luxury. Because there is no way of knowing just how much power you can get out of a zinc-air battery, the charge can run out at the most inconvenient moments (though really, there is no convenient time for a hearing aid battery to run out). And if you forgot to pack a back-up supply, the rest of your day out suddenly becomes much more strenuous.

3. They work well in colder weather

Zinc-air batteries find it difficult to work properly in cold temperatures. The frigid weather could lead to your batteries losing their charge much quicker, which saps the power from your hearing aids and may cause problems with the sound quality.

Lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids are getting very popular in cold areas because they don’t have the same disadvantages. They perform just as well in colder climates than they do in more temperate regions. Batteries with lithium-ion suffer little or no cold weather charge loss, which makes them more efficient than disposable kinds.

4. The greener choice

Recent documentaries and news reports have shed light on the things we use and throw out and what we can to reduce the amount of waste we send to the landfill. But, hearing aid users go through hundreds of batteries over the lifespan of their hearing aid. Also, the batteries have the potential to cause damage to rivers, lakes, and water supplies if disposed of improperly.

On the flip side, you only need one lithium-ion battery for almost the entire time you use your hearing aid, making it a much more environmentally friendly option.

5. Older users prefer them

Many older adults who wear hearing aids say that one of the most annoying tasks is replacing batteries. With limited dexterity, simply trying to open the battery door on the hearing aid can be very hard. It’s also very easy to drop and lose hearing aid batteries, which could potentially make them a hazard for any young children or pets who happen to come across them.

There is great news, these problems are eliminated with rechargeable hearing aids. You simply place them in the charger at the end of the night and wake up to fully-charged hearing aids.
